One of a set of seven delightful psalm settings by Heinrich Schütz (from Opus 5, Becker Psalter settings) in fresh English paraphrases. Schütz's psalms are tuneful, rhythmic, easy to learn, and useful throughout the year.
A guide to the liturgical use of the psalms is included.
Words
Give ear, Shepherd of Israel, who Jacob's sons and daughters
You lead as flocks upon the hill to their familiar waters.
Upon your angel throne shine forth, your awful power releasing!
Restore us, O Lord Sabaoth,
Your mercy on us showing,
And grace on us bestowing.
How long, Lord, will your people's prayers be met with your displeasure?
You feed them with the bread of tears. They drink tears in full measure.
Our enemies above us gloat. Our neighbors joy in scheming.
Restore us, O Lord Sabaoth, etc.
Then let your hand, Lord, be upon the one whom you created,
The Son of Man, whom you made strong, and for whom we have waited.
Your name will never be forgot. Our faith will be unceasing.
Restore us, O Lord Sabaoth, etc.

Such uns heim, sieh an unser Not, des lieben Weinstocks schone,
Erben in deinem Reiche.
Cornelius Becker (1561 — 1604)
