Rudsambee seeks new musical director ...
Rudsambee is a well established, high-quality, ambitious, amateur Edinburgh
choir that is looking for a musical director. We offer an exciting opportunity
for a musical individual keen to fit in with our style and further our musical
development.
About us
- We are a mixed voice a cappella choir of about 20 singers. Our
varied, international repertoire encompasses Renaissance to Contemporary
music and we sing in a wide range of original languages. We've recently
performed pieces by Thomas Tallis, Tomas Luis de Victoria, Debussy, Vaughan
Williams, Eric Whitacre, Abbie Betinis and Imogen Heap.
- We perform 4 to 6 concerts throughout the year, and our reputation enables
us to fill venues such as St. Giles Cathedral, Rosslyn Chapel, the Swallow
Theatre near Whithorn and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Occasionally
we travel within the UK for concerts or choir exchanges, and less frequently
tour abroad.
- Every few years we record a CD.
- We can all read music and have a good level of musical ability.
About you
- You have a strong musical background and interest in choral music
- You have the potential to lead a musical group and conduct it at public
performances
- You would help to select and develop our repertoire (with some input from
the singers)
- You can commit to working with us for at least a year
- You are available on a Wednesday evening to take a 2 hour rehearsal in
the Morningside area
- You want to have fun with a friendly group
- You may be a music student with potential and enthusiasm or an early career/
more experienced professional (Our current director joined us as a student
and has developed along with us).
In exchange a modest honorarium is offered. The position is required from
approx March/April 2012. Our current director, Ollie Singleton is willing
to support during a hand over period if that would be helpful.
